Review on ASUS VG28UQL1A 144HZ Gaming Monitor: Curved 4K Display with Flicker-Free Technology, Anti Glare Screen, and Blue Light Filter by Anthony Caudle

Great monitor, don't use HDMI 2.1

I love this monitor and ASUS TUF products. First, I have an ASUS TUF 3080 Ti. I had a few minor issues with this monitor and couldn't figure out why. The display has issues turning on after waking up, turning on, and every time the display turns on. It was even worse with multiple displays. G-Sync and overclocking stopped working after a few weeks. It's like the HDMI 2.1 port no longer recognizes the HDMI 2.1 cable. I've tried both HDMI 2.1 ports and multiple 2.1 cables and nothing has changed. My other monitors worked fine with G-Sync, they used DisplayPort. I even tried my PS5 which uses HDMI 2.1 and the monitor still wouldn't overclock. My guess is that the HDMI 2.1 ports somehow failed. I used DisplayPort 1.4 and was able to go back to 10-bit, G-Sync and 144Hz thanks to DSC. It was also immediately impeccable when compared to HDMI 2.1. This is my second time buying this monitor and the problems are constant. The only thing I can't recommend is HDMI 2.1. DSC gives the best results. Before I built a PC, I had no problem playing games on the PS5, which in turn used HDMI 2.1. I suspect that using multiple displays will shorten the lifespan of HDMI 2.1.
