Review on πŸ¦– Indominus Devourer: The Ultimate Jurassic World Destruction by Bobby Diaz

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Here it is, Indominus Rex

Where to start? Mattel has been killing it with a Jurassic World license for a year now (minus a few "mmm" numbers here and there, personally I don't mind excessive repackaging and repainting). BUT. Their Indominus Rex is a whole different level of their abilities than Jurassic dinosaurs. Jurassic World is fast approaching its 4th anniversary and I couldn't have imagined a better way to honor it by holding it in my hands yesterday. A kind of revenge for old memories. I remember buying Hasbro a week before the film came out and I will always remember how unimpressed I was. He was so shaky and disproportionate that he could not stand on his own. I threw it in the closet and soon forgot about it. Every time I liked it, I just couldn't get over how out of place it looked next to Mattel's old Kenner line and new offerings. I got rid of it last summer because I believed Mattel would eventually make it and get it right. It took almost a year, but it was definitely worth the wait. So here's my review: Packaging: Standard Dino Rivals packaging, only this one has a depiction of an Indominus Rex instead of a regular Triceratops. The uniqueness of this pack is that it had a plastic latch that I had to remove from the dinosaur before it started making any noise. Otherwise there is nothing new here. Sculpture: This is without a doubt the most accurate depiction of the Indominus Rex that we have received in toy form. It looks like it's straight out of the movie, it's got all the scale, bumps and peaks you could want - this thing has days of detail. The head sculpt is REAL - not to mention it has beautiful custom molded hard plastic TEETH! No rounded rubber chunks or lazily painted bumps! That's the real deal. Their legs are a bit large, but that helps the action's function, and the tail can be an inch or two longer. I would also prefer the arm feathers to be a bit more pronounced, like the feathers on her neck. But these are minor quibbles, nothing that detracts from her greatness. Color: Mattel nailed the simplicity of the Indominus Rex's iconic white skin without making it boring. And it's hard to do. Subtle gray tones along the back and darker tones on the face and around the skull cavities make the look more expressive. The eyes aren't too bad, but leave a lot to be desired for better contrast. The claws on the paws are painted with a pleasant shine, but for some reason the claws on the hands are not. There is nothing that cannot be corrected with acrylic paints. Oh, and let's applaud the custom-painted teeth! Special feature: I enjoy it. There are two buttons; The first on her back causes a slashing motion with claws, similar to an Indoraptor's grip and snarl. The other at the base of the tail opens its mouth and activates the iconic roar. She has three roars, and one of them causes a light in her throat. Like the Thrash n' Throw T rex, you can steer it with your tail, grab small dinosaurs or humans and swallow them whole. But I think it's better than TnT Rex. It doesn't have too terrible an articulation, aside from the basic points of articulation that other theropods in this lineage have. She has posable elbow joints, although I wish the wrists were articulated like an Indoraptor, but that doesn't matter. As a bonus, her mouth can open wide enough to bite into a gyrosphere from Claire's story set as the movie scene looks. However, don't rely on increasing it with an action feature. Unfortunately, it cannot come to that. Verdict: This toy may be 4 years old, but all things considered, this is the Indominus Rex toy we Jurassic fans deserve and more. Beautiful sculpture, great action, and absolutely outshines the other characters in the line. I have a to scale photo of Thrash n Throw, New Savage Strike Blue and Owen and Claire for reference. Everything about him is so classic for JP/JW dinosaur toys that he even puts connoisseurs to shame in places. I think this almost eliminates the mess Hasbro made with their disastrous Jurassic World toy line. I cannot stress enough how this toy does the Indominus Rex justice that he desperately deserves. I hope Mattel is proud of this and will be able to release more of these dinosaurs in their future waves.
