Many bear claw type products are made out of plastic and I would be concerned that hot/heavy meat could crack or melt them. This is not a problem with stainless steel. I used it for pulled pork and loved it. Much easier than using forks which are small and tend to bend. These claws perfectly grip the meat and easily shred it. Cleaning was easy and the rubber backing on the top handle was very comfortable. They're not much bigger than plastic, especially well-made plastic, and they'll likely last forever.
