What you see in the product photos is an accurate representation of the colors and brightness of these two coasters. There is a small button on the bottom that allows you to switch between different lighting settings. You can choose one of the solid colors available (you can see them all in the product photo). There's also a setting where the stand cycles through all of these different color possibilities every time it's activated. The coasters are vibration activated so they light up when you put a drink on or take a drink out of it. They light up for about 30 seconds and then go out. I will probably use them more in my house than in my car. Even in a well-lit room, they're bright enough to look good.
