Auto-Dim Mirror Success!

Installed in 2005 Chrysler Town & Country. If anyone is thinking about installing a Gentex 50-GENK2AM auto-dimming rearview mirror, I wrote this post. I bought a set of 3 Dorman mirrors as I didn't know if the Gentex would bolt on easily or not. Dorman's set was not needed at all. There is a torx screw that holds the OEM mirror to the windshield. Gentex uses the same Torx bit to attach the included Torx screw to the glass. Gentex just snaps into place with no fuss. That was the easiest part. It took me a while to figure out the wiring. First I tried to click on the map highlight but it didn't help. There are 2 positive wires in the map light harness. One wire kept the Gentex powered on at all times, and the other kept the Gentex powered only when the door was opened, and only for a minute. What a fool I was! [slaps his forehead]. I ended up routing the wire around the edge of the window in the headliner, into the A-pillar and to the 12v socket. I was surprised to learn that the van doesn't have an internal fuse box, but that's no big deal. Gentex looks pretty standard and is very affordable. No more late-night swearing at trucks!
