Review on Versatile EZDIY-FAB 5.25 inch USB 3.0 Multi-Card Reader with USB Charging Port - 6-Slot Card Reader, 4X USB 2.0, 1x eSATA | Ideal for Convenient File Transfer, USB-Charging & More! by Andrew Amzallag

Features a true USB 2.0 pass-through port (no internal hub)!

This is a pretty good multifunction box that fits in an empty 5.25" drive bay. It has two cables to connect to the USB 2.0 ports on the motherboard and runs them straight to the four USB 2.0 ports. which means they don't require a hub or driver, which was a big plus for me and is the reason I bought this thing. It also has a USB 3.0 cable split into two parts, one of which connects to the USB 3.0 port. as usual and the other one is used internally for the card reader. Before you install the drivers for the card reader you will see that each removable drive will show up in Windows with a drive letter (which most people don't like), but once Windows Update installs that Drivers will then hide all drives UNTIL you insert a memory card, which is very cool. Since it is a USB 3.0 memory card reader, the transfer speed is fast, I was able to read a 2.5GB file from the SD card in about 20 seconds. The driver is "Genesys Logic USB 3.0 Card Reader", so I think Genesys made a card reader chip. It has a USB charging port; This is for power only and does not provide data. Very convenient for charging your phone or game controller. It looks like it's powered directly from the four-pin Molex power connector, in case you're concerned it's trying to duplicate the use of USB 3.0 or 2.0 power connectors across multiple ports. It has a standard eSATA connector, not an eSATAp connector, so there is no power supply for an external hard drive. But it's a handy way to add an internal SATA port to your case if you need it. The build quality is excellent; The entire case is encased in a metal box rather than an open frame, there's a cable grommet to protect the cables coming out the back from pinching, and all cables are long enough to fit even a large desktop case. . There is a pass-through Molex power connector with a somewhat short cable, but most PSUs have enough spare Molex power connectors that you'll likely have a spare that can reach it. The front has a brushed metal texture that looks great when it matches the rest of your case. Perhaps the only odd thing is that some (not all) memory cards are inserted upside down (label down). This isn't a problem, but you should probably be careful not to insert the card the wrong way round. Cards don't quite fit either, they belong to those that you put half in and that's it. I prefer that they're push-pull (with an internal latch) or at least fit further in, but that's pretty normal for these feature-rich card readers. I think if your computer was under your desk it would be more difficult to connect the cards "by touch", mine is on the desk so I have line of sight with the card slots and it works fine. Well. Well made, easy to install, long cable length, and I really like that you get a direct USB 2.0 connection and that the memory card's drive letters are usually hidden.
