Review on ๐Ÿ”ง GEARWRENCH 2-Piece Breaker Bar and Torque Wrench Set - Model 85876 by Mark Adams

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good quality, accurate torque

Good basic set of 1/2" torque wrench and pry bar. Supplied in a blow molded plastic storage box. A brake rod works well for loosening lug nuts and relieving stress on a torque wrench, especially when tire shops overtighten the nuts, which is almost always the case in my area. Torque is adjusted by lowering the latch. Collar mechanism and rotation, release to lock. Pound-pounds are marked on one side and newton-meters on the other, with round numbers denoting foot-pounds. Oddly enough I also have almost the same torque wrench from SATA (same parent company Apex Tools) and the scale has Newton meters as round numbers and fractions for lb-ft. So I prefer this torque wrench if you're primarily using lb-ft as it's easier to dial in the exact number. Accuracy seems good compared to the very expensive snap-on digital torque wrench and was within 0.5lb-ft of 85lb-ft. torque. A sturdy torque wrench with a nice long handle for good leverage. The click is easy to see, but you can continue tightening after the click, which is normal with this type of tool. The jumper is a standard 81308D notch key that typically sells for around $35. It's just a regular 24" breaker with a 1/2" socket and works fine. No coatings on the handle, just slightly curved so it has a semi-ergonomic teardrop shape like their other main ratchets and breakers. The quality is good, there is a lifetime guarantee. All in all a very reliable kit for the workshop mechanic or anyone who changes wheels on a regular basis and wants to make sure they are torqued properly without spending big bucks on a digital torque wrench. My Subaru's wheel spec is 65 ft lbs and I had a tire dealer who had them tightened to over 100 ft lbs. It's sloppy and I won't be going there again, but it's good to have a basic tool to make sure your wheels are torqued to the prescribed amount. The torque wrench increases the torque to 250 ft. lbs, making it easy to tighten the axle nut on my car to the specified 137 ft. lbs.
