A bit flimsy and expensive for two thin pieces of plastic, but functional in the sense that this Chromebook is VERY smooth and slippery and the textured "sleeve" gives it a little "Tooth gives” to hold on to. There is little protection except from scratches. Other reviewers who said they couldn't open the Chromebook shouldn't "snap" it all the way, as I have no problem using it in any position as if it didn't even have a lid. Again, I would never pay $20 for two flimsy pieces of plastic, but I couldn't find another case that would compromise the extreme sleekness of this Chromebook.
