Review on Philips LFH9600 Digital Pocket Memo Recorder - Advanced Digital Recorder by Flavio Iyer

Very bad design

I have been using a digital voice recorder every day for many years, so I am very familiar with the use of voice recorders. Unfortunately, there was no designer for this device. The buttons on the front of the device are exactly where you would normally wrap your fingers around the center while holding the recorder. More than once I've accidentally pressed one of the keys while dictating, only to later discover to my horror that I "rewind" somewhere in the middle of my dictation and dictated it for some time. Time. Likewise, the record/pause button is not a dedicated button. Instead, it performs the same function as the rewind button, so I don't have to pause up and down while dictating. I have to be very careful not to go too far and rewind the record and put it back on tape. These design flaws are particularly annoying since the recording quality is actually flawless and the device is very solid. With a little help from industrial designers, this could be awesome. But for now I warn against buying.

Pros
  • Excellent design
Cons
  • I have doubts
