I bought this camera to replace the 'round' camera I use on my Night Owl DVR to monitor the inside of my tailgate. As a wide-angle camera, it worked great from the start with perfect focus, but I needed a zoom camera so I could tell if someone had left the shutter open or not. This camera met those needs and now I can tell through the camera if the door is locked or not. Being able to change modes with the DIP switch at the end of the power cord was handy, as opposed to the DIP switches on the camera body. If you've never used a dome camera before, installation may seem cumbersome, but removing the hex head screw and unscrewing the locking rings will all come loose and you can simply screw the base to the wall or ceiling surface. In my case, I used standard #8 screws because I went into the stud behind the drywall instead of the included screws and anchors. Since dome cameras are spheres they are not labeled "top" or "bottom" but if you look at the camera lens you will see a photocell between the IR LEDs and this side marks the bottom. Keep that in mind and you won't install it upside down like I did the first time. Focus was sensitive when the camera was fully zoomed in, adjusting 10 to 15 degrees of rotation to get the perfect result. You should make sure you can see the monitor while doing this. In my case I just positioned the laptop where I could see it and was able to set everything up, aim and focus in about 5 minutes. Infrared performance was negligible. I could see the IR LEDs glowing in the dark, but the old running cam offered the best night vision. This is not an issue for my application, but keep this in mind if excellent night vision is required. 5 stars because of the night vision otherwise I would have given 5 stars.
