Works but requires CAT5e/6 cable

Inexpensive well made product but didn't work with my internal CAT5e at first so I tried a few other cables: Cables that didn't work (even after adjusting EQ potentiometer) : * Belden-M Datatwist CAT5e fiber optic cable, 50 feet (terminated by me, but tested with Paladin cable tester) * Comtran CAT6 fiber optic cable, 65 feet (terminated by me, but tested with Paladin cable tester) * Aurum Cat5e cable, 75 foot (factory terminated) cables that worked: * Belkin CAT5 (not 5e) patch cord, 6 ft (factory terminated) * Belkin CAT5e patch cord - 50 ft (factory terminated) * Belkin CAT5e patch cord, 75 ft (with factory sealed) In the middle of the test I called Tripp-Lite and was impressed with the attitude of the tech support, who answered my call quickly, politely and with no 'prepared' answers. At my relatively short distance, they assumed that any compatible CAT5e or CAT6 cable should work and suggested that I reconnect everything and turn it back on in the prescribed order. I did just that and found that the order was irrelevant to my tested cables; In fact, the cables that worked could be swapped out in any order and still worked. I ended up reconnecting the track under the house with a Belkin 50ft factory terminated CAT5e cable and everything seems to be working great: stunning, clean, stutter-free images. I have a similar Atlona HDMI-over. -CAT5, and if I had to do it again, I'd like to consider whether the $200 premium for a pro-level Atlona is worth the hassle of Tripp-lite. $200 is a lot of money. but also buying some test leads and spending time crawling under the house.

Pros
  • ACTIVE EXPANSION KIT: The transmitter and receiver work together to send an HDMI signal to a projector, monitor or TV over a Cat5e/6 cable. Ideal for digital signage, schools and trade show presentations
Cons
