Review on πŸŽ’ Osprey Farpoint Travel Backpack: Essential Daypack for Casual Adventures by Anthony Cayton

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Worth the investment!

I cannot praise this backpack. My wife and I bought 2 of these for our 3 week trip to Europe in 2014 and we loved them. We actually ordered a Farpoint 40 but they sent us a Farpoint 55. We chose to keep the packs rather than trade them in and I'm glad I kept them. Technically, the main package does not meet the maximum size requirements for most airlines. . In practice, however, the backpack fits in every overhead bin I've tested it in, and it feels "soft" enough that I've never been challenged by airline staff. I've successfully carried it as carry-on baggage on American Airlines, United Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, and Alaska Airlines. Our trip in 2014 lasted a total of 4 weeks and these two packages were all our luggage. The main backpacks were big enough for our luggage and the detachable backpacks were the perfect size for everything we needed to carry with us on a daily basis (camera, jacket, passports, wallet, etc.). At first I was surprised at how light the nylon fabric is. feels, but they held up remarkably well. The fabric does not scratch, does not leave streaks and does not stick. It's certainly not waterproof, but we found it to be waterproof enough to weather light rain well. One of the stitches on my wife's backpack shoulder strap ended up coming undone, but we contacted Osprey and they fixed it for free with no problems. They definitely endorse their product! I have three small frustrations about the backpack ---- The water bottle pockets on the outside of the backpack are not big enough or not elastic enough. They work, but good luck putting a bottle in when your backpack is full. The zippered belt cover on the main backpack is difficult to remove when you want to use the main backpack's shoulder/waist straps. You need to roll it up to the bottom and then stuff it in a small velcro area. It never fits perfectly and it always looks like it might pop out again. It never really came up, but I wish they would redesign the conclusion here. The frame is about an inch larger than what "officially" qualifies as carry-on luggage. let's go boys! Just reduce the frame by one centimeter and everything will be kosher! I called Osprey on the phone and one of their designers said they were working on a similar concept - hopefully they'll work it out. We've never had an issue, but why not just shrink the bezel down a bit to be on the safe side? Conclusion: buy it, you won't regret it. The quality you get is totally worth the price.
