Review on Sotek Compatible Cartridge Replacement Brother by Jonathan Devarapalli

The printer does not recognize ink cartridges from other manufacturers. . . TRY IT!

I have bought these replacement cartridges twice and have been VERY satisfied with the product and especially the price. I recently had to replace the cyan cartridge and my MFC J485DW printer did not accept the cartridge for the first time. It kept showing "cannot be recognized". After many attempts with 2 new cartridges I gave up and contacted Sotek via email. I received a quick reply and they offered to send me a replacement package. I was very impressed with their excellent customer service. Now I had to find out why this was suddenly happening after using their cartridges for 2 years with no problems. So I looked at customer reviews from other cartridge manufacturers and found that this problem is quite common. I learned this from others to get around this non-detection problem. Using your fingers or tweezers, carefully remove and replace the ink chips on the "empty" ink cartridge (the one you removed) and the "new" cartridge that is not working. Put a new cartridge in the printer and voila, it worked for me! I have cleaned the "printhead" and can now print! 2. Someone else had success disabling "auto-renewal" on their printer "BEFORE" replacing an empty cartridge with a new one. This allows the printer to use cartridges from other manufacturers. Since the above method worked for me, I didn't have to do it, but I'll try that first next time. Here are the steps to try this method: 1. Select the tool icon on the printer display.2. Select "All Settings"3. Select "Machine Information"4. Select "Automatic firmware check"5. Select "Off" to disable updates6. Insert a new cartridge.7. Select "Clean Printhead". Much luck! I hope this works for you!
