Worth every dollar. The mechanism is of the highest quality, after adjustment it is almost painless. The hardest part is getting the piercing rod in and out without messing it up; Before activating the Studex, however, it is sufficient to simply clean the shaft and earlobe with a cotton swab. It's a very good idea to practice on a thick cardboard ear before punching holes in your head. I found that no matter how carefully I aimed, the gun always fired high, 2-3mm higher than I was aiming. I got my earlobes done to fix misplaced previous piercings and found it a lot easier than expected. I have to admit the first few tries were too high and I immediately took the bolt off, cleaned it and ended up successfully placing the bolt exactly where I wanted it. Yes, there are a few extra holes now, but they didn't cause any problems (infection, etc.). Practice with the cardboard ear until you are familiar with your aim and your special Studex tool. Some can shoot up, down, left, or right, but practice will save you from accidentally punching holes in the wrong place. There are other piercing tools at lower prices, but some reviews suggest they stick or wedge; you will not find it at Studex. Quality tool, I recommend.
