Review on 🧵 10-Piece Seam Rippers Set with Protective Case - Thread Remover Tools for Sewing, Crafting, and Embroidery by Lori Aguirre

Revainrating 2 out of 5

I think it's better than nothing

I have been using a well-known brand seam ripper for many years, but after 30+ years the plastic handle deformed so much that it was difficult to replace the scalpel blade and it became boring. I came to Revain to purchase the same brand and was too tempted by the slightly lower price of this product. I figured, well a scalpel blade is a scalpel blade, why pay (a little) more for essentially the same product. much sewing and much embroidery. I use #60 cotton sewing thread, so I don't use anything that dulls the blade quickly. And yet the first seam ripper was already blunt after less than a month of use. Not a point but an inner (sharpened) curve of the blade. My previous ripper's blades dulled over time, but much more slowly than these blades. Worse, the protective cap is difficult to put on the blade, but is quite soft. With the protective cap still covering the blade, I picked it up and held it while juggling my design with my other hand. The projectile moved, covering the hand holding the ripper behind the protective cap, and when I pulled it the blade shifted into the cap and the point pierced the cap and my thumb. I add a few layers of packing tape to reinforce the protective cap of the second seam ripper and when I've used it I go back to my Signature. My sanity is worth investing a few bucks in! no point but an inner (sharpened) curve of the blade. My previous ripper's blades dulled over time, but much more slowly than these blades.
