Lately my 1987 F250 6.9IDI tachometer has not shown any engine RPM which is evident on a cold start at high idle when the engine is revving where it is should rotate but the tachometer shows 200 rpm. Replaced the sensor this morning in about 10 minutes, don't forget to put a few drops of oil on the o-ring before installing. I started the car (morning cold start 29 degrees, parking heater not connected) and the tachometer immediately showed high idle (1200 rpm)! Also interesting. Can the truck be shifted more smoothly? I'll do my homework on that. Since the old sensor I just replaced has 232,000 miles on it I probably won't see the day (maybe a truck?) when I need to order again. but I would.
