I needed something for my balcony that could be battery operated with a USB cable. I wasn't sure if that was true based on the description, but I was pleasantly surprised when the USB cable came with the base. You can also plug any cheap power adapter into an outlet. However, a strong wind will knock it over. This thing is STRONG! I'm still getting used to the sounds and sparks when the larger bugs rush in. They are attracted to light almost immediately. is it a joke I got goose bumps on the first day. My dog freaked out under my covers and 200 dead bugs on the balcony table. That's really the only downside to this thing. The bugs just fall where they die. There is nothing that catches her. My New Portable Car Vacuum Cleaner Moths are so stupid it's almost unfair to use that against them. Mosquitoes and invisible ums also have very little chance. Flies rarely attract enough to be shocked, so using this as a fly swatter is important for them. I don't scare you every time someone gets hit.
