Review on Polk Audio Signature S10 Satellite by Autumn Robertson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great option for surround speakers

These were purchased as surround back speakers for a 5.1 system consisting of ELAC B5.2 Series speakers and a 12" SVS subwoofer. ELAC speakers are great, but I wanted smaller and more efficient speakers than ELAC for my rear environment. Good quality and affordable rear speakers are still pretty hard to come by, especially if you don't want your rear speakers to take up a lot of space or too much stand out. After much searching I decided to give them a try based on the good reviews, small size, great looks and most good experiences with Polk speakers. I remotely power them with a small cheap 50w wireless speaker amplifier. I particularly like the grilleless look: the high-frequency sound is much better and more audible than previous Polk speakers, which were often shrill and sometimes even painful. magnetic, which is very nice. Cons: A bit lacking in low-frequency effects and bass, which is what you'd expect from any small speaker with a 4-inch driver. Edit after a month of use - almost got them back as the sound seemed very weak compared to the rest of my speakers. After around 60 hours of use the sound has improved greatly and they sound much fuller now, not as tight and limited as when they were new. Now I feel that the Polk S10 is very well suited to the rear environment and does a great job in that role in my system. Unlike other small speakers I've had, I don't feel like I'm missing out on surround sound detail. They sound fine as near-field speakers in a cabinet or computer, but a subwoofer is very useful to make up for the lack of bass sounds.
