I am very happy with this replacement. Additional steps are easy to follow, but instructions are not included. I hope the following steps will help you. I would buy this again. This device works fine but does not work out of the box. I can see this frustrating many reviewers, but the actual device works. The reason for having to make some changes manually (purely speculative) is that Brother also sells toner cartridges and they would rather take your $70 than ship you somewhere else. Here are the steps I had to follow to get this working properly. on the Brother HL-2270DW printer: 1) Turn the printer on (or leave it on if it is already on the cartridge side) in the "new" position (at about 11 o'clock). The device I received was misaligned. Make sure that the arrows on the gear and on the housing match. The "starter" cartridge doesn't have this gear, but instead has a fixed black piece (with the same wavy arrow, but not moving). To align, you need a Phillips screwdriver to remove the black case (2 screws). Move it around and then screw it back in place. 3) Remove the old cartridge from the drum and put the new one in its place. 4) Insert the drum and cartridge assembly into the printer. 5) Go to the printer maintenance website to reset the settings. toner status. This is available via the printer's IP address in a web browser. Select "Printer Settings" and log in with "admin/access" credentials. Scroll down and change "Replace Toner" from "Stop" to "Continue". submit changes. Please note that the toner indicator did not reset immediately but went off a few minutes after replacement. Now the print runs correctly and the print quality is good. This cartridge is a damn good deal for the money and I am ordering an extra cartridge for family members. I can't vouch for the cartridge duty cycle/life yet as the replacement hasn't run out, but I'm very happy with the money spent (and saved).
