I have a square flat brush just cheap from Walmart. I usually do a pretty good hand brushing as my hair is quite long and tends to hang down the sides of the brush. This tool doesn't come with instructions, so I'm not exactly sure what the end of the pliers is for, but I used the end of the brush to pull out the bristles on my paddle brush and grab all those hairs at the very bottom, which I missed when I clean them by hand. It picks up the hair and tangles it in the teeth of the brush, then just pull it out and pull off the end and throw it away. I only gave it 3 stars because I feel like I can clean with this detergent myself. I suppose it makes the job a little quicker and a little easier, but keeping an eye on it and staying clean is another thing. Perhaps this tool is more useful with a different brush that has teeth/bristles closer together. mine are far apart. Also, my brush picks up little rings of dust wrapped around the very bottom of each of my teeth and I was hoping this tool would clean those too. It is not. It loosened some of it when I washed my hair, but overall it didn't do anything for the little rings of dust.
