A dollar a foot for a warm white LED is pretty amazing, especially since it includes a transformer, a light bar with closely spaced LEDs, and an RF remote controlled dimmer (works through closet doors!). My usage is wood. around my flat screen TV, which looks much better when soft light hits the wall at the edges of the screen. The dimmer has multiple flashing modes (useless for our purpose) and buttons for on/off and dimming. You can use the dedicated buttons for 25%, 50%, or 100% light, or use the +/- buttons to decrease the brightness in smaller increments. We use a fairly dark setting when watching movies when we like the room relatively dark. And we get brighter when we're having fun because we're making the whole room brighter. This strip does everything I wanted very well, at a much lower price point than I expected. Please note this is a flat strip with adhesive on the back to stick to the surface. It mainly shines in one direction, unlike fairy lights that shine in all directions. For me it was perfect because I wanted to control the angle of the light. The flatness also makes it very, very thin, making it perfect for something like a light under the edge of a countertop. What is it for? Aside from my original use, I see this as perfect for china or glass display cases, or as additional lighting in a cabinet. Think of it as an accent light or dark spot filler rather than a main light source. As with all LEDs, the individual bulbs are tiny and very bright to the eye when you look directly at them. Therefore, the best use is indirect - place a strip under or behind a surface so you're never looking directly at the bulbs.
