Review on πŸ“ž ASUS White SV1TW Skype Video Phone with Touchscreen by Erin Johnston

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great videophone! Straight from the future

I bought this product for my parents who live in another city. We used to spend a good 10-20 minutes on the phone just trying to set up a Skype video call - there were always some issues. With ASUS Skype Videophone, the whole process is now a breeze. It always stays connected, and even if the Wi-Fi network goes down, it reconnects once the network is restored. (Update: This isn't always the case, as I sometimes have to manually connect after turning off Wi-Fi.) The battery is small, but it lasts for a single 20-30 minute call, which is fine . In any case, they mostly use it plugged into an outlet. The choice of tunes is pretty good and there are some that are louder than others if that's what you prefer. Software updates automatically over Wi-Fi or Ethernet with minimal user interaction. The interface is nice and clean and everything is very intuitive. Good job ASUS! I was also very impressed with the video quality from the built-in camera. The product feels solid and reliable and makes you want to use it. However, there's a small issue I've encountered: when you try to add a new contact, sometimes searching on the device doesn't return any results, while repeating the same search on the PC quickly finds the desired contact. This rarely happens and to be honest I have no idea why. However, this bug didn't affect the intended use, so I just ignored it. (Update: Video Phone Search is one way to overcome this, and is more efficient at finding Skype contacts than Add Contact, but still isn't as good as Skype on PC due to the lack of support for international keyboards.)

Pros
  • Satisfied for now
Cons
  • I won't say anything
