I would also suggest getting a roll of "Gaffer's Tape " (Gaffer's Tape is very similar to duct tape as it is strong cloth tape

I use it as a "Tether" - Cable when using a computer to control a DSLR (I use it for astrophotography and food photography. It's durable and I have a solid connection to the camera. Gaffer is very similar to duct tape in that it's a strong cloth tape, but it doesn't have it - messy adhesive that peels off cleanly and leaves no sticky residue.) The tape is a cable on a tripod so if someone trips over the cable it won't tear the camera connector or damage the connector.
