I bought this camera to take photos and record some family events. I had an 8GB SD card that I have used on various cameras but when I used it on this Nikon it sucked. The camera only records 8 minutes before stopping. I had to press record every 8 minutes which was a bit annoying. The other issue is that the 8GB SD card wasn't even fully utilized. The camera recorded a maximum of 20 minutes, after which it refused to record and reported that the memory was full. An 8GB card will last at least an hour or two. I formatted the card to see if there was a problem but it didn't. There was no setting on the camera to change the retreat time. If you need this camera exclusively for photography, then everything is fine. But I suggest you look elsewhere if you want to record. I returned mine.
