We have passed this toy by hand and from the moment my kids started playing with it it became their favorite toy. They started playing with him when he was about 1 year old. Back then they would just turn off the gears, but now they are almost 2 years old and not only do they not just turn off the gears they turn them back on, they study cause and effect (e.g. gear not turning? or "How do I get this gear to do that to turn?”). They stack gears and play with them literally every day. In fact, it was such a hit that it's one of my favorite gifts for friends' kids who are about the same age as me!
