Good packaging for the money. I got it for longer runs and training hikes in the hot summer months. I'm getting older, and while previously I could walk or jog 12 miles in wet summer weather without ingesting water or losing 5 pounds of water weight, I found that last summer I came back with nausea and dizziness. Consumption of 2 liters of water. Eventually I realized that I had developed a bad habit that I can't deal with anymore since I'm an old man. Also, my right knee is showing some signs of wear after decades of running. So lately I've been running longer distances (12 miles) with more incline (about 1500 feet) instead of running most of the time. . I've tried running/hiking and holding a lightweight disposable water bottle but it's just a pain when I'm in there for three hours. I thought the waist straps would be just as uncomfortable. So I was looking for a hydration pack and decided to give this a try. I couldn't be happier. It fits my frame perfectly. Design, materials, assembly - all good. And the range of functions meets my needs. I can carry as much water as I need and not even feel the weight. My wallet, keys, sunglass case, hat and iPhone all fit in the bottom pocket so I don't have anything in my pockets which makes hiking so much more convenient. The backpack fits very closely to the body, has a very low profile and does not interfere with the design features, and is very easy to put on and take off. The padding on the back and shoulder straps is very light foam but suitable for a pack that typically weighs less than 10 pounds. And with the MOLLE system, it can be expanded for a day trip if you want to take food, a first aid kit or a raincoat with you. Comfortable design for this backpack. The 3 liter capacity is a little too much for this class of backpack, but the simple solution is to fill it with as much water as you need. The welded septum in the center of the bladder limits bladder protrusion and keeps the profile 3 inches slim. It also helps limit water sloshing in a half-filled bladder. Two things I don't do What I don't like about this bladder is that 1.) it doesn't have a snap-on top opening. You can fill the bag from above or grab it all the way to empty it. 2.) The wide neck doesn't let me screw my First Needs XLE water filter into a Nalgene-compatible thread kit like my other tanks, but is very handy for filling my bladder in the field. Hydration bladder with leak-proof quick-release button Bite valve also snaps on and off with quick-release button This makes cleaning and flushing the hydration tube a lot easier Thumb-actuated on/off valve felt a bit too strong. I usually opt for a simpler design with a single bladder port and a straight, easy bite valve that I can operate with one hand. I experimented with this tube yesterday on my first hike (12 miles) and am happy to report that after a little experimentation it can also be used with one hand. It's just a different method. I felt comfortable with him after about 20 minutes of play. This is very important if you intend to take a camping stick or trekking poles to go up and down tree roots, rocks and streams. Appearance is a totally subjective thing. I didn't want black because it's hard to find anything in any backpack with a black lining. Especially in the shade or at dusk/night. The black also means it will be a bit hotter in summer weather when I'm going to be using it. I don't need camouflage because I don't hunt with it and honestly I'm not trying to hide from anyone on the trail, so I thought it looked silly. There was a brown version left, which I bought. It's lighter than black, so the heatsink should be smaller. The yellowish-brown color makes it easy to see inside. And the color goes pretty well with my other gear, which is described as desert khaki, desert tan, coyote brown, sand, etc. Another added benefit is that the buckles, zippers and straps are more visible on this tan version. It should also handle dirt and dust better than black cloth. But the great thing about the little nylon packet is that if it gets too dirty, it can be immediately thrown in the washing machine. Finally, some numbers about this package that are missing from the product list. The top and bottom taper to 8 inches midway between the pockets. Thickness: 4 inches with full bladder and stuff in pockets. Weight: Pack only 568 grams, 20 ounces, 1.25 pounds. Tube 83 grams, 2.9 ounces, 0.18 pounds Total weight: 804 grams, 28.36 ounces, 1.77 pounds Maximum water weight 3 liters: 3000 grams, 6.6 pounds Maximum packaging and water weight: 3804 grams, 8, 37 I've been using this pack for training hikes and 8-12 mile runs and climbs up to 750ft for about 2 weeks now. There were no obvious problems. The backpack is well worn, does not rub. It hugs my back and stays in place when I jump off logs and boulders. There are 2 things I really like. 1.) When my pockets are empty, it's comfortable on the track. 2.) Water availability made a big difference when temperatures started to rise. I was able to run 12 miles at a 90 degree angle, but ended up getting nauseous and drinking copious amounts of water while recovering for about an hour. When water is available during exercise I train better and have no nausea or recovery time when I just pass out after 12 miles. Carrying water with you is simply better than allowing yourself to lose 5 pounds of water weight in two hours. Additionally, I've added two molle pouches that give this small backpack the ability to be a tolerable everyday backpack. One of them contains my first aid kit and the other contains an ultralight stove and cooking set. This leaves enough space for provisions and an ultra-light raincoat, but also for your wallet, car keys, sunglasses and soap dish.
