Our fluorescent kitchen light had 12 inch (32W, 2400 lumens) and 8 inch (22W, 1050 lumens), both round fluorescent tubes (kitchen/bathroom color temperature 3000 degrees Kelvin), hidden behind a plastic diffuser. I removed the ballast and connected a couple of lampholders in parallel directly to the incoming AC power. Now bright dots on the diffuser reveal the position of the new LED bulbs, but what a difference! From 3000 Kelvin to 3500 Kelvin the light gets a bit whiter, and 3000 lumens is less than 3450, but our kitchen looks brighter. 28 watts instead of 54 watts and no more repeated cycling to "start" fluorescent lights (due to ballast failure).
