chemise runs bigger than the overdress

So i knew that i would have to hem it after reading reviews, but I didnt know that I'd also have to take in the chemise. Unlike other reviewers, my chemise came in the off white color. I am 5'6" 175lbs and usually wear a size 12 . I ordered the l/xl and the overdress fit fine. and it is pretty adjustable with the laces on the front, back and at the shoulders.T
