Review on BESTEK 300Watt Power Inverter Adapter by Andrew Spainhour

Revainrating 4 out of 5

DO NOT connect sensitive electronics to it!

I bought this as a clean power or AC motor, laptops and sound system for use while camping this summer. It worked great the first time we tested it, and then failed the first time we really needed it. It drew a lot of power and blew several fuses in our setup. Even the cigarette lighter burned out from the train current. Having had it in our possession for less than a week I wanted to find out what happened and opened it up. CREEPY! Extremely poor soldering quality, dirty connections, any wire that was hand soldered to the trace connecting the transistor heatsink THROUGH the high/low voltage isolation cutouts? The design looks solid but the build quality is poor and quality control is lacking on this particular device. We have ordered a second device for comparison and are building quality day and night - and which one do you hold in your hands? If the quality was there it would be an amazing device, but I wouldn't advise anyone to plug a $2,000 computer or even a $200 speaker into it unless you've covertly checked it. I want to like this thing. It has well-placed thermal sensors, a solid heatsink, and plenty of glue used to attach heavy components to the board to hold everything together if dropped. -- it's just that someone is making some very pathetic excuses for these devices, and you won't know until yours blows up. hopefully just a few fuses and a block.

Pros
  • beautiful thing
Cons
  • There are other interesting possibilities.
