Supplied fully assembled with the battery already installed. You can use this magnifying glass for many things, but I mainly use it for viewing jewelry. I can check the jewelry's markings to see if it is a TW diamond (total carat weight) or 14K, 10K, £92.5 etc. The measurement markings on it are very convenient. I can check my chain size in millimeters if I want to order another one of about the same size etc. And you can measure gemstones or other items. i like light I don't need blue light (other than making it fun to look at different dollar bills and see the colors). Note, however, that the blue light will come on first, so you must remember to turn it off; Otherwise your battery will run out. You can use it on a flat surface or pick it up and hold it. It's great that they include a case so your lens doesn't get dusty or scratched.
