I actually paid almost double what was originally sold before Nikon decided to shut it down. And it's worth every penny spent. I take photos both privately and professionally. I have more cameras and lenses I want to release including some "high end" flashes. Why exactly this one? Two reasons: workhorses, a retro-style Nikon DSLR called the Df. This camera has the look and feel and all the knobs and levers that the old SLRs had, but incorporates the latest (digital) SLRs. Built like a tank, it still has a menu. You can use it if you're inclined, but you can also look at it or customize all the dials and buttons. Like older DSLRs, it does NOT have a built-in flash. I do NOT want to go against this combination of simplicity. and performance by adding a high-end giant flash on top that delivers 2X+ lo. Smaller, heavier and much more complex than this one. The second group of reasons: It has almost all the qualities I'm looking for in a separate flash: - high power (high count) - long battery life - high reliability - very fast recycle time - cheap, long-lasting, readily available batteries (simple in extreme cases to be found) - automatic control with full function compatibility with the camera - adjustable head! (top/bottom/etc.) - includes a very attractive, compact and durable case for protection when not in use. What it lacks I can mostly endure: and its master/slave remote control for other flashes. Which I only use for special glamor shots. Nikon made a big mistake by dropping it but you can fix it - but you'll either have to buy it used or if you want a new one (like me) you'll have to order it from a dealer in Revein or elsewhere, who gets it from Japan, where it is still sold. The Amazon seller I used received it in a relatively short time and in perfect condition. Which included hand folded origami thank you notes for some reason. (nice touch) Of course, if you or someone you know goes to Japan, ask them to get you a copy. The price is higher than the original because in a capitalist system high demand drives up the price, but it's still a bargain in my opinion. All connoisseurs want this flash. It combines extreme functionality in a very small package. The model released by Nikon as a replacement has been sterilized, so your actual external flash options are still a lot more expensive. And more. Most of the time I shoot in natural light without a flash. But when I need a flash, I use it. Pick it up and hide it. Even if I don't carry a bag. Now imagine all this at half price (original price). Nikon, wake up and smell the coffee. Return this item to regular markets.
