The changed shape of the pellets means my cat won't eat them

Our Orange Tabby kitten was placed on a restricted diet and the vet told him and his brother to be fed this food. Last year I bought a 14 pound bag and had trouble getting the cats used to it. My orange tabby preferred to starve first rather than eat it and if I tried to mix his old food he would choose his old food and eat it. This went on for several weeks. He ate RC food once and then threw it away after an hour and then ate it again. .BUT. With the last bag, the shape of the parts has changed. It's not a Y or X anymore, it's an O, and now my ginger tabby won't touch it. I'm really annoyed because nowhere was it announced that the shape of the pellets had changed. Now I have to deal with a poor cat who is trying to starve herself to death because she won't take change. My cats are both good cats. My small white cat has never had a weight problem, loves most foods and eats both wet and dry food. My orange cat was told he was overweight because he was 14 pounds and he was just unhappy eating that and then he adjusted and now he has to go through that all over again? I just want him to have a happy cat life but where do I draw the line?!?! Neither cat has ever asked for or eaten food from humans. I am trying to find another seller who may have old pellet feed or I will just give them their old feed back. I just feel bad because he's very picky about what he eats.
