Should have been in the ear. It's not, so if you're not Charlie Brown, look elsewhere. Also, they cannot be rolled over the ear due to seams. However, you can wear them over your ears, but you'll look like a smurf/idiot. With the hat snug on my head it covers the top half of my ears as intended and I have a normal head size.
