That's not the dummy plug you're looking for

Okay, this thing is solid and I'm sending it back immediately. That's just stupid market segmentation at worst. These guys seem to sell three adapters, one for 1080p and below, one for 4k (this one) And interestingly they make a third adapter, a headless GS. As far as I can tell it's just an Edid chip on the HDMI port. That's all. This particular adapter is advertised to support resolutions up to 4k with no issues. What they don't mention (and what I want to see in the reviews that mention it) is that this adapter only supports refresh rates up to 15Hz at 4k. Which, by and large, is pointless and useless. This fact doesn't annoy me so much, but rather the fact that they didn't bother to mention the refresh rate limit in the product description. So they charge $5 for products which as far as I can tell are just differently programmed Edid chips in each of the three products and they can't really explain the limitations of each. I will amend my review if they clearly state the limitations of the product on this page by then. And if you're like me and using this for a headless gaming rig (of sorts) and need 4k at 60hz, it seems you want a headless GS model that (according to the manufacturer's website) runs at 4k at 60hz.

Pros
  • DVI to HDMI Adapter
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
