I bought this gate to help my 6 month old sports lab. I use it at the top of the stairs. I slide one end under the closet door handle and bend the other two sides so the other end slides over the track. My house is two stories and the banister is at the top of the stairs. This keeps it in place. If the dog is particularly active, I use a bungee cord to hold the side of the rail in place. The gate is very well made, attractive, value for money. It's like beautiful furniture. And it keeps the dog where it needs to be. If I need to go to the lower level, I just slide the gate and fold back one side. Works great for me.
