Let's get the obvious out of the way: users have MANY portable Bluetooth speaker options at half the price of this one. The obvious question is whether this offers twice the functionality of an alternative speaker that's half the price. Everyone has to decide that for themselves, but having used dozens of cheaper Bluetooth speakers over the past few years, the answer to that question is (IMO) yes. This is facilitated by a combination of sound quality, the ability to expand from mono to stereo, the inclusion of a remote control and available lighting effects. This speaker also comes with a full color instruction manual. "3-in-1" in the product name: This refers to the audio function ("stereo" in the product description if you've also bought a second one for stereo; one works as a standalone mono like most Bluetooth speakers speaker), what to read, light (from a circular array of 8 LEDs) and LED effects (sleep, wake and colour/strobe) controlled via an Android (or iOS) app. The base also serves as an on/off control. When undressed, the speaker LEDs will turn solid blue to indicate they are ready to pair. This speaker is easy to combine with Android and Apple software sources. If you use the optional second speaker for stereo programming, the two speakers will be automatically connected about 10-15 seconds after the second speaker is turned on. After that, pair the source device with the speaker, which itself is referred to as the master. Overall the sound quality was excellent. It handled high volumes well, delivering clear and neutral reproduction of highs, mids and lows across a range of music genres. This can easily serve as the music source for a suburban family gathering (or a group gathering around an open fire or BBQ). The HueDJ app works flawlessly. You can set wake-up and sleep modes, which gradually change both the volume of the sound and the colors of the lighting (presumably the light combinations are appropriate for the function in question). Additionally, there are two modes for adjusting the colors displayed: Color mode essentially lets you choose the color that the LEDs will pulse to match the music. The strobe mode unsurprisingly produces strobe effects that I quickly find annoying. A second loudspeaker is required for stereo operation. After years of hearing "acceptable" sound quality from Bluetooth mono speakers, the return of stereo effects is a welcome change. You have to decide for yourself whether you want to double the purchase price. Overall, they have a more premium fit and finish than their less expensive competitors, and I think this reflects their Taiwan origins rather than China. .Overall very good speakers Note: This product is for reference only.
