I have been waiting for a long time to write this review. I wanted to make sure the performance is there, how the card performs in modern conditions, etc. Let me just say this card is great. I bought it in July 2016 for $271 before taxes. I believe it's closer to $300 right now and worth every penny unless you have the funds to spend more and get a 1070 or 1080. This version of the GTX 1060 features 6 GB of GDDR5 VRAM and a greatly increased clock speed. The only downside is a 192-bit bus instead of a 256-bit bus, but the overall performance of this card more than makes up for the limitations of the bus architecture. My card sometimes rattles when connecting HDMI cables and I'm not sure if that's the case. my particular card or card model or whatever. I've searched for this issue and found nothing but coil squeak complaints that aren't on my chart. Matching the HDMI cables eliminates the high-pitched pop (it sounds like a coil whistle but it's not, sometimes it rattles when I move the case a certain way while clearing the table), so it's not a big deal. With the latest drivers I can max out games like The Witcher 3 and Doom with this card and AMD FX-8320 with stock clocks. This game has no problem playing anything I throw at it, but I haven't tried games like Forza Horizon 3, especially Forza because it's a next-gen game and because I've read horror stories about how it works and when You're trying to set it too high. However, Forza defaults to near maximum settings and looks absolutely amazing to me. Gears of War 4 looks beautiful. FarCry Primal can be played with settings close to maximum. Unless you have the money and willpower to stock a top-notch 1080 or a really good 1070, the 1060 is so good for you that it's unrealistic. . Keep in mind that the best performance gain you will see is on modern systems. If you're still running Windows 7 or 8/8.1, you won't see as much of a difference as you would on a Win 10 system, but you'll still see an increase in performance. more powerful than the R9 380 it replaces and uses >maybe< half the power. I went from 2 6 pin at 380 to 1 6 pin at 1060. Overall, my CPU runs cooler with the Nvidia 1060, although I suspect that's because the PSU is taxed less (it's just a regular 600W) and not as much of all the calculations the GPU is doing. I hope this article helps. 4/5 stars due to accidental card howling, otherwise it's a LOVELY, solid card. Before I forget, its maximum safe operating temperature is 95 degrees Celsius. The highest score I've ever seen is 81, and that was in The Witcher 3 with hair and all settings on max. Good luck and have fun! EDIT 5/14/17: New PSU etc. I've decided to update this map to 5 stars. The whining went away after I replaced one of the HDMI cables with a shorter one. Apparently the weight of the old HDMI cable put pressure on the card and made it uncomfortable. rzunimag. Anyhow, as of today, the Prey card (2017) runs at the default speed FX 8320, 16GB 1866 DDR3 RAM and a max speed of 60 fps. I know Prey isn't the most expensive game, but it's still brand new, which shows that this card is still very relevant. Also, after switching to a new power supply unit (PSU), when playing The Witcher 3, the card now heats up to a maximum of 75-76 degrees Celsius, while it used to rise to 78-81 degrees Celsius. In any case, there is enough wiggle room as the maximum safe operating temperature is 95 degrees Celsius, but I still don't like frying my electronics. If you're looking for a comparable AMD card, the next offering would be the RX 480/580. I'd still use AMD to be honest, but I'm tired of their constant tech overhaul and rebranding. I hope when I'm ready to upgrade this card in 3-5 years AMD will catch up with Nvidia. Just take a look.
