Review on UAG Metropolis Feather-Light Rugged Magma iPad Pro 10.5-inch/iPad Air 10.5-inch Case - Military Drop Tested [3rd Gen, 2019] by John Eaton

Versatile, easy to use in different situations.

I first ordered another highly praised case without a cover, as I assumed that the Apple Smart Keyboard would be used as the front cover. But even before it came out, I was doubting my decision because I don't use the keyboard much. That's what I have on hand, but it doesn't need to be connected to the iPad 24/7. Also, I needed an integrated face cover, so I chose UAG. The keyboard and UAG cover work very well together even without removing the front cover. Well, I wouldn't transport it like that, but for working around the house, moving from table to table, etc., the setup holds up very well. The image shows how the keyboard fits into the lid as a unit. When I need to move somewhere, the magnetic closure flips over the spacebar, letting me grab whatever I want with just my iPad in one hand. If I need to fold everything temporarily, the keyboard flips up, the UAG face cover flips back, and the magnetic closure flips back to hold everything back together. In fact, I never detached the UAG's front cover from the case. When I pack it up for shipping, the keyboard comes off and is stored separately in an ammo pouch I got elsewhere at Revain for that purpose. The keyboard actually stays separate in the bag most of the time. I mostly use my iPad to read or take notes with my Apple Pencil, so the pen holder comes in very handy. As another reviewer mentioned the pencil could have been protected a bit better but I'm glad the holder fits to protect the fintie tip and cap holder I got for it. So that's a plus. The indentations on the lid work well enough to hold it in different landscape orientations. I tend to read in this position with him on the table. The dimples could be a little deeper, but they're not useless. When it is necessary to lay it down at a lower but elevated angle, I turn it 180º so the hinge of the lid is away from me and fold it back with the flap folded down the middle. This keeps it at a smaller angle. It works so well I wonder if it was intentional. I also like the rubberized leather, which makes me feel better about dragging everything onto something that may not be 100% dry or clean. In general I love this business. It's much better than the very similar one on my previous iPad.

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • Minor flaws
