Review on StarTech.com Triple Monitor USB 3.0 Laptop Docking Station - Enhanced Connectivity for Windows & Mac with 4K HDMI and Dual DisplayPort by Luis Tuazon

Better than my Dell built in dock (mostly)

Like everyone else I bought this so I could work from home and not have to unplug all the cables when I wanted to lay on the couch , not at my desk. I have a Dell laptop with its own docking station specific to the model where you can slide the laptop in and out as needed. I recently picked it up from work, but when I brought it home I found that it had increased the size of my laptop so much that I didn't have room on my desk for my two monitors. I tried putting it on a small side table, but it was too big even for that, so I opted for a docking station that didn't need to be plugged into my laptop for it to work. I've had good luck with StarTech products. so i decided to try this. It has a wide range of ports to connect different types of displays (HDMI, DVI, VGA, etc.). It even comes with a VGA to DVI adapter if you need it. Plenty of USB ports - 2 of which are connected to the network. One of the "monitors" I use is actually an all-in-one computer with B&O's own soundbar, so I was dying to use it. It was a little difficult to set up to work with MS Teams, our conferencing platform, but it finally worked. it was recognized as a separate USB audio and USB microphone device. Also, for some reason, the key for my keyboard wasn't recognized through one of the USB ports on the dock, but I had a USB hub and plugged it in and it works fine. What I find most annoying is when the laptop has to be switched off. Instead of booting it up from the dock, I have to open the laptop and use the power button there and use the laptop keyboard to log in until everything shows up and the dock is recognized. But that's a relatively minor inconvenience - far less inconvenient than having the whole damn laptop and docking station taking up valuable real estate on my desk! If I have to go back to the office, I use my standard issue. Fix it there so I can have one for home and one for work. If you want to maximize display options and workspace, this is a good way to do it. [LCAR]
