I'm moving my high bacterial load saltwater tank to a cleaner (read: fake) location with a new sump. So instead of live rocks and macro algae on display, I'm going to use faux rocks and plants. My dottyback (pictured) was very concerned. He loved his living rock covered with sea fans. After I put the PVC pipe in, he liked it too. Not me. Now he loves his fake magazine. It was only a few hours before he moved in. It looks way better than PVC. In fact, it looks better than anything else in the aquarium. He's about 2-1/2 inches tall so you can see in the picture how tall the log is and how perfectly it fits his body. appears to be safe for salt water. As you can see, snails and macroalgae are doing well too. I didn't feel the need to file down any sharp points. I didn't notice anything and neither did the hunchback. So the log is A+ for my skinny 2-1/2" saltwater fish. He sleeps in it and otherwise spends the day huddled around it. I'm happy too.
