This works if the bugs are actually attracted to the light.

This device is fine. I found that when I used it, I kept it within reach around my body. As I observed the bugs, they were more interested in hanging from the top of the device than heading straight for the blue light. Blue light kills bugs so it works fine. Ordinary light is just an accent light, more like a night light. Doesn't give much light.
