Not suitable for 1 year old, bought for daughter's first birthday. The top is ok but doesn't really stay on top of the box. My biggest complaint is that the wooden blocks are easy to chew and fit in my daughter's mouth and after the 2nd block was chewed I had to remove the sharp bits. tree out of the mouth. I have since removed all the wooden blocks. It's a good idea to maybe make the wood harder or bigger so it can't be chewed, which can cause choking.
