Review on πŸ’» Dell WD19 180W Docking Station: Enhanced Power Delivery with USB-C, HDMI, Dual DisplayPort, in Sleek Black Design by Aaron Masek

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Valid for 10 months then I will buy more

First received in June 2020, had to be replaced in April 2021. Overall excellent, works so far, but here are the issues and caveats.1. The first had one of the rear USB ports mounted upside down. Unexpectingly, I inserted the cable "the wrong way around" the first time, and the thin inner plastic parts of the connector were too bent to use. I ignored this port as I have a USB hub and could do without a port.2. After a few months it stopped "waking up" when the Dell went to sleep. Workaround: Do not use hibernation.3. Eight months later, every now and then, mouse movement would simply turn the video off for a few seconds and then turn it back on. Confirmed it wasn't the monitor's fault by checking the monitor non-stop. Since it only happened once an hour, I decided to just ignore it.4. In the ninth month of ownership, every sound suddenly became hoarse or tinny, like people were lisping. Connecting the speakers directly to the laptop fixes the issue by proving they are in the dock. So with problem number 4 I ordered a new one. This one came with USB ports on the back, both of which are properly oriented - further proof that the ports shouldn't be installed in opposite orientations. All the issues in the above list are "solved" for now, but this second one has only had a few weeks of use so far. Why was I crazy enough to order a second one? Hoping I "just got a lemon" from the factory; and worse, I've had better luck with other Dell "universal" port replicators. That at least lets me know it's delivering the correct wattage (both volts and amps) for the laptop and hopefully it's a charm the second time around.
