MicroSD card PNY 512G: failure within a month with complete loss of all data

I wish I could give this ZERO stars. It failed after just a month - nearly 474GB of music GONE from the card (I have a backup of everything on an external hard drive so I don't lose the contents). PNY isn't one of the two brands I buy (Sandisk and Samsung), but overall it had good reviews, was a bit cheaper, and was the size I needed. The crash occurred when playing music through my Fiio DAP. I was able to verify that the problem was with the card and not my DAP by using different adapters and trying to access it on 2 computers. The card was not recognized by either computer, so I went through the warranty process. PNY customer service was terrible too. I should have known from the start that if contact was a problem it was going to be a miserable experience. Just trying to get info on how to return the card to PNY as it was still under warranty was problematic. Eventually I contacted Revain customer service for assistance in contacting PNY customer service. I emailed PNY with all the purchase information from my Revain order and they sent an RMA number and return address. Please note that they will only send a replacement card and NO refund, which was my original request and preferred solution. Three weeks later they claim they didn't receive the returned card (I sent it via USPS). I didn't wait for a replacement before ordering a new microSD card, this time from Samsung, one of the two brands I bought. for 15 years. The Samsung card was a bit more expensive and only weighed 400GB instead of PNY 512GB, but I was willing to pay the extra money for less storage. I've never had a Samsung or Sandis card fail. I've gone back to these brands exclusively - if they cost more for less space, it's worth knowing.

Pros
  • Great selection
Cons
  • too stupid
