I have used this product with my iPhone 4 and my 2002 Honda Accord SE. The cassette adapter has screws that allow you to adjust the cable for side or front loading tape recorders. I have a side loading cassette deck so no adjustment was needed. I just connected it to my iPhone, inserted the band and it worked. On the plus side it was hassle free and there were no clicks or noise from the tape recorder (my last one, from a different brand, kept clicking). That's how he does his job. Phone calls, radio, audio books and navigation all sound good. However, the sound quality for music is poor, especially compared to the last cassette adapter I used (which made a clicking noise but otherwise had great sound quality). The music lacks sharpness and parts of the songs that should be distinguishable are mixed together and obscured by whispering noise. While it does a great job of playing music (it doesn't randomly eject or drop out as some reviewers have complained), it actually makes music difficult to enjoy. for the best way to play music from a smartphone in an old car with a tape recorder.
