Despite the bad reviews, I took a chance and bought it with tips on how to minimize the "abuse" a tripod might be subjected to. but then two of the legs came loose and my camera popped off the "fixed" mounting plate. Over the course of four days, I installed the GorillaPod on trees, mountain view railings (Squamish, BC), bridges and a bike. And for four days, GorillaPod worked like a dream. He held on tight and there was no question of shaking. The workflow was always the same: 1) Check the plate handle to make sure it was tight; 2) Carefully adjust the legs around the attachment point, being careful not to apply too much force at the point where the legs connect to the ball head; 3) Adjustment of the ball head for a shot; 4) Carefully remove the legs from the attachment point, being careful not to apply too much force to the point where the legs connect to the ball head. But on the last day of my trip and the reason for this one star rating is that two of the legs came off and the plate couldn't handle me. Despite double checking the slab for leaks, I hit the camera with my knee and the camera fell 5 feet to the concrete. There are scratches on the eyepiece rubber which makes using the Sony EVF uncomfortable/painful and the camera doesn't start up every few times (black screen). I can no longer trust the camera to be ready for quick photos. Eventually, as mentioned above, two of the legs came loose. I was able to "reattach" one of the legs, but a few minutes later when I went back to adjust the leg, it popped out again. I couldn't reattach the second leg as it looked like some of the plastic had been grooved (the attached picture should explain this better). Of course, even if I could reattach the second leg, I no longer trust the stability and durability of the tripod. I might have gotten a bad one, but my $600 camera was already buried. I don't want to try that again with my DSLR. In general, it was a pity that this product could not do what it was supposed to do. I really wanted to like this product and for the first four days I liked it. Use at your own risk.
