My red poodle weighs 17.5 pounds and is 14 inches at the shoulder. She has relatively long legs. I originally bought the L size but the waist was tight so I bought the XL. Returns and exchanges were easy. Turns out velcro is better than velcro because my dog gets frustrated with the sound of velcro (another canine behavior mystery). The fur almost reaches his paws and completely covers his underside, so when we go indoors after a rainy walk, the only parts of his body that are wet are his paws and head. My only problem with this is that the hood is too big for his head. As a result, he closes his eyes completely and loses his bearings. I folded the hood and fastened it so it wouldn't hit anything. Thumbs up!
