My E30 was bought in 2010 to replace the venerable E500 without image stabilisation. I paired the E30 with an Olympus Zuiko 12-60mm f/2.8-4.0 Digital ED SWD lens for Olympus DSLRs, which is an excellent lens. Olympus wide-angle digital SLR cameras - mainly indoor interiors and landscapes. At long focal lengths it has some distortion, but this can easily be corrected in the Olympus Master II software. With the Olympus MF-1 OM lens adapter, I can use my manual range of lenses, but I have to rely on manual aperture and focus. The E30's screen doesn't lend itself well to manual focus and there's no manual focus assist. Spring. However, in the studio it is very good and a good option as I have a full macro kit from my OM4t days. This combination is well balanced and meets most of my photographic needs. Having used Olympus DSLRs since 1980, almost every design decision is clear to me. As mentioned, I could have done without the XD card slot - an SD card slot would have been a better choice, but backwards compatibility is a hallmark of the Olympus design. practical in certain situations. The built-in spirit levels are very useful for landscape and/or panorama shots. The E500 that replaced the E30 only had a slow USB1 connection. The E30 has a much faster USB2 connection. Battery life was excellent. The integration with my studio flash via the PC connection was great. I have a Novatron backpack and use it for studio work. The E30 has a larger and brighter viewfinder than the E500. A 4/3 camera has a darker optical viewfinder than a larger sensor camera. I use an Olympus EYECUP ME-1 MAGNIFIER loupe on my E-30 and it makes a huge difference to me. Like it a lot. I've never run out of battery. This is remarkable compared to the E500 it replaced. The BLM-1 battery easily manages over 300 shots. Overall, the E30 was a good photographic partner and exceeded my expectations. Hope this helps someone.
