Each lamp took about 5 minutes to assemble. Storing the umbrella upside down for transport is awesome! The lamps look so bright, polished and elegant on my kitchen countertop. (Though I agree with other reviewers. Black cord makes no sense at all. White would be perfect. My only gripe!) I prefer countertop table lamps over overhead lighting for a warmer, less bright kitchen, and they fit the bill. Highly recommended. A note: yes, it took some time to remove the plastic from the base of the lamp, but patience and care resulted in no scratches and a pristine finish. I want this lamp to be bigger for my office. UPDATE: 2021 - just bought a 3rd and 4th for bedside tables in the bedroom. just love it!
