When I received this 'new' item it was already visibly opened, the box was smudgy, one of the layers of original plastic packaging had been stuffed back into the box containing the item (no attempt was made to wrap it around the item around), and the unit had deep scratches and rust spots. It was like someone had sent back a defective item and Revane was trying to see if they could pass it on to the next person. (Maybe the next jerk will save this one). The replacement came quickly and, to Revane's credit, was easy to request. (Annotation: That doesn't make up for the fact that I sent shit the first time! special! Seriously, a blind person could say: that they pack an already opened box!). The second was actually new and unopened as ordered. It still had some imperfections on one side (slightly more noticeable scratch/nick) but I chose to use this as a guide to which side to use as the top. Mine hasn't rusted, but I suspect the manufacturer knows the block is likely to rust because it's covered in some sort of grease, sealed in several layers of plastic, and comes with a couple of moisture-wicking bags.
